"Sunset Saguaros" 30x15x1.5/36x24x1.5/30x15x1.5 mixed media presents a triptych, which is a set of three panels that are meant to be displayed together. Each panel depicts an expansive desert scene sunset, with vibrant orange and yellow hues in the sky.
The desert landscape is dotted with various types of cacti, particularly the tall, iconic saguaro cacti, which are distinctive of the American Southwest. Shrubs and smaller plants are scattered throughout. What's especially notable is the textured foreground in each panel, which seems to integrate actual rocks or a three-dimensional technique to give the appearance of real stones and pebbles, enhancing the realism and depth of the scene.
The continuity of the scene across the three canvases emphasizes the expansiveness of the desert, while the changing colors and cloud patterns in the sky suggest the transient nature of the moment being captured. This artwork conveys a serene yet wild aspect of the desert, with the warm tones of the sunset inviting contemplation.
Sculpturing with different mediums to enhance the way I felt, starting with acrylic paint glazing in the background, and topping with assorted mediums of modeling paste, fiber paste, matte gel, ceramic stucco, fine pumice, course pumice gel, and Apoxie Sculpt. Added to acrylic mediums to enhance realism with gauze fabric, rocks, sand, and dried plants.
